These days developer are trying to make Linux more user friendly, to make things easier in Linux. Ubuntu tweak is another project of such a developer. It is designed to make configuring Ubuntu more easier, it offers many desktop and system tweaks which we can’t do through the normal desktop environment. Currently It is only designed for Ubuntu GNOME Desktop.

Features:

  • View of Basic System Information(Distribution, Kernel, CPU, Memory, etc.)
  • GNOME Session Control
  • Auto Start Program Control
  • Qucik install common usded applications
  • A lot of third-party sources to keep application up-to-date
  • Clean unneeded packages or cache to free the disk space
  • Show/Hide and Change Splash screen
  • Show/Hide desktop icons or Mounted Volumes
  • Show/Hide/Rename Computer, Home, Trash icon or Network icon
  • Tweak Metacity Window Manager’s Style and Behavior
  • Compiz Fusion settings, Screen Edge Settings, Window Effects Settings, Menu Effect Settings
  • Set the Shortcuts to let qucikly access your favourite applications
  • GNOME Panel Settings
  • Nautilus Settings
  • Advanced Power Management Settings

How to Install (There are 2 Methods) :

A) Download the Deb Package and install (The easiest method)

B) Add the source of Ubuntu Tweak, and install from the terminal (Recommended)

  • Open your terminal and  import the key: sudo apt-key adv –recv-keys –keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com FE85409EEAB40ECCB65740816AF0E1940624A220
  • Type the command to run gedit(or other editor in your opinion) to modify the sources list: sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
  • And put the following two lines into the end of the file

If you are using Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy or early

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/tualatrix/ppa/ubuntu hardy main

deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/tualatrix/ppa/ubuntu hardy main

Or Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/tualatrix/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main

deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/tualatrix/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main

Or Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/tualatrix/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/tualatrix/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main


  • Then update the source and install or upgrade Ubuntu Tweak:

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-tweak
