uusbf3Whenever you Try to Format USB Flash Drive in Windows Xp, You have only two options to select from FAT or FAT 32 but with simple tweaking in Windows settings  you can format your  USB flash drive in NTFS.

Why to Format your USB Drive in NTFS

  • Improve Data Security Features.
  • Setting Access Permission to individual files and folders for specific users
  • Encryption of Data is possible with inbuilt Window Xp Encryption Feature.
  • Ability to Compress Files and save space on USB Flash Drive which is not possible in FAT

Why Not to Format Your USB Drives in NTFS

  • If you don’t have any advanced requirements and just have to do common data transfer operations.
  • Writing to Drive in NTFS take more time so the access to drive will be slower.
  • Windows old than Windows 2000 and Linux system can’t Read NTFS Flash Drives
  • You Won’t be able to access Encrypted Files on USB Drive anywhere else.
  • Depending upon your Requirements you can decide whether you have to format your Flash Drive in NTFS or not.

Steps To Format USB Flash Drive in NTFS

1) Insert Your USB Flash Drive in to your computer

2) Once it is available for use. Right Click My Computer and Select Manage.

3) Now Click on Device Manager and select the Disk Drives in the Right Pane. After that Double click on your USB Flash Drive which in my case if Kingston Data Traveler 2.0 USB Device

4) Now Right Click the Properties and the go to policies Tab as shown in Figure. Then you would get two options to select from Optimize For quick Removal and Optimize for Performance. You have to select Optimize for Performance and then Click Ok.

5) Now Go Back to My computer, right click on your USB Flash Drive and you will get an option to format your Flash Drive in NTFS.
