built-with-web-bigHave you ever thought of making your own operating system? Actually you need to have great programming skills to build an operating system! Is it right? Actually it is half correct… now you can build your own customized Linux distribution based on SUSE Linux in few easy steps!

Thanks to SUSE now we can build our own customized system online and not even that we can also test it online! Pretty cool isn’t it?

Benefits you will get :

  • After making your own customized system you can use it rather than installing the normal system and after that spending a lot of time installing your software (customizing it).
  • Next benefit is… you can do this and show others that you know something!

Enough talking…. lets see how to do this….

1) First of all you need an invitation to access SUSE studio. Don’t worry you can get an invitation very easily! Go to http://susestudio.com/ and click on “Create account / Sign in” link at the top right corner.

2) In the next page enter your e-mail address in the second text field which says “Your email:” and click on “Request Invitation”

5) You will get an invitation as shown below, click on the link provided in that mail.

13) In this page you can set general settings like the language, keyboard settings or the region (or you can set them to be taken during the installation). Then add a user or better to change the existing “tux”.

14) Next go to the “Startup” menu and set up the license and the default run-level. (If you don’t have a license use the GNU General Public License )

15) Next, the “Desktop” tab. Use this to set up an automatically login user, so that you don’t need to give the user-name and password, every-time the system starts. (or you can leave at its default setting). If you need to set a program to start automatically when the system starts, you can set it up from this page.

16) Now use this “Overlay files” tab to ad files or folders to your OS. (such as file for the desktop, images, photos)

17) Ok, now your all done… now go to the “Build”. In here give your OS a version number and select which format you need it (Live CD, USB image, VMware image), finally click on “Build” to start building your system.
