Recently the Canonical have release their latest “Mighty Ubuntu 9.10” which came with lots of new features and software integrated to it! But, not only that… they have also removed some of the old software that we used for many years. For example… they have replaced our Pidign (one of the most popular, easy to use chat client) with Empathy!
I don’t know about others, but im not satisfied with Empathy…. so i decided to install the latest Pidgin back on my system! Today Im going to show you how i did it…
- Copy the following commands (one at a time) and paste them in your terminal (and… of-course execute them, one at a time) to setup the PPA :
1) sudo apt-key adv –recv-keys –keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 67265eb522bdd6b1c69e66ed7fb8bee0a1f196a8
2) echo deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/pidgin-developers/ppa/ubuntu `lsb_release –short –codename` main |
3) sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pidgin-ppa.list
- After that run sudo apt-get update to update the software list
- Finally run sudo apt-get install pidgin to install the latest pidgin on your system…. and Enjoy!
