Ads! for most of us who deal with websites…. the main income is by placing ads on our websites! For most of the bloggers, the only income is Ads! But… do you know How to place those ads? What is the maximum number of ads that you should use? What are the colours that you should use for the ads? From where can you get quality ads?…..

Most of us just put some ads and wait for it to make us rich…. sometimes it might work (if you get  really lucky) most of the time it won’t perform as you expected! Well….. to make them work, to optimize them to earn the maximum revenue, you need to spend some time to study this subject! Lets see…..

From where can you get quality ads?

Today there are many services which you can obtain ads for your website…… they offer various kinds of ads, some have image ads, some have ad buttons, some have ad links…. But this doesn’t mean that we have to use all of those ads….. not at all! Too many beans will spoil the soup! So lets see what are the best!

• First, and the most popular way of getting ads is by using Google AdSense. AdSense is the leading ad service that we have today, they have both image ads and text ads. They provide targeted ads according to the content of your site… If you want ads… the first choice is google adsense! We’ll talk about how to optimize these ads later in this post….
• Next we have the Chitika Ads! Chitika is known as the “world’s premiere search targeted advertising solution”. They will show ads to people coming through search engines from US and Canada. But not to worry….. you can use them with google adsense…. you can set the settings so that when ever a person comes from a different country, or if a person comes from another referrer, the site will show them your google ads!
• Amazon Associates is the third option. This program will show ads about Amazon products. When ever a customer clicks one of those links and buy that item, you will be paid 15% in referral fees! In this system the customer have to buy the item for you to earn money…. so my opinion is always give the first priority to Adsense and Chitika….

These are the best three services that I can think of… use them wisely (you can use ads from all three services), but don’t fill your site from those ads…. and if you know about more better ad providers, feel free to comment them!

How to place those ads?

This is something you must experiment. Put your ads in different places and compare the CPM and the revenue earned, then you can decide what are the best locations to place your ads. Don’t worry… your not alone, I will give you some tips to start with….

• The best location to place you ads is at the beginning of the post (at the top, not the top of the site). Try to use some image ads for this!
• Some think that image ads are the best, but there are some occasions that text ads perform better than the image ads! (for example try to use text ads at the bottom of the posts)
• Do not put too many ads, some visitors don’t trust websites which have too many ads….. it makes you look like a desperate man who needs money badly! (actually you can’t put too many google ads! they have their restrictions, so read their guide lines carefully)
• Try to use 125 x 125 ads, personally, when I go to a web site, I pay more attention to those ads.

What are the colours that you should use for the ads?
Many won’t pay much attention to this matter….but, colours play a big role in advertising! I’ll give the details as points, so it will be easy for you to follow….

• Most people try to put various colours to get the user’s attention away from the posts…. their main intention is for the ads to be isolated! Some of these colour combinations are painful! (For example people use a very light green colour as the background of the ads, I don’t know about others…. but I never look at those ads!)
• Try to use the colour scheme of your website.
• Use a transparent background, if the ad providers won’t support this…. use the colour of your site’s background
• Try to blend the ads with the site… if you don’t understand it forget about it….. because the above points will tell you how to do this.

These are the points which my brain gives me for now…. But, don’t worry in the future he will decide to give more…. One more advice….. do not depend only on these points, if you want to get the maximum revenue, experiment based on these points…… and pick the best for your site! Different sites will get different results, so experiment!
