mininova_legalFor what do we use torrents today? Simply for illegal or legal file-sharing… But what  comes to our mind as soon as we say torrents? Simply, illegal file sharing! Mininova used to be one of the biggest torrent sites on the web. But recently the Dutch Court of Utrecht have ruled that BitTorrent platform Mininova acts unlawful, and Mininova have to remove all of their illegal torrents from their site!

Mininova is used to be one of the first places people used to go to obtain something without paying for it! That means to obtain illegal copies (cracked) of software, games and movies! Some say that it is good for people who are in poor countries, but it also shrinks the income of the original owners of the software!

Recently the court have ordered Mininova to remove all the illegal stuff from their site, but practically it was impossible. They have tested many filtering systems to filter out the bad torrents, but apparently they were not 100% successful, so they have removed everything except their Content Distribution service.

Unfortunately the court ruling leaves us no other option than to take our platform offline, except for the Content Distribution service. According to the verdict (Dutch link) we have to prevent uploads of torrents to Mininova that refer to certain titles or to similar-looking titles. We’ve been testing some filtering systems the last couple of months, but we found that it’s neither technically nor operationally possible to implement a 100% working filter system. Therefore, we decided that the only option is to limit Mininova to Content Distribution torrents from now on.

Miss Mininova? Actually my opinion is illegal torrents are really illegal, but why the hell are we going after those payed software? People… the world is changing now…. now we have lots of free and open-source software which performs better than the others! So why not use them? I say its time for a revolution!
