Linux : How to Download Multiple Files from Command Line

DownloadYes, you guessed it right! It’s Wget what i’m talking about. Wget is a free utility for non-interactive download of files from the Web. It supports http, https, and ftp protocols, as well as retrieval through http proxies.  Now, let’s see how we can download multiple files from the command line in Linux using Wget.



For the beginners, the most basic way of downloading files from Wget is :

wget URL

  • Replace URL with the exact link of the file to download as shown below.
wget URL

wget URL

Now, what if you happen to download multiple files ? Here’s where this simple trick comes in handy.

  • Open up gedit by typing

gedit download

gedit download

gedit download

  • Now insert the URLs of the files you wish to download line by line.
  • Save it and now you can use it as a parameter for wget. The following wget command will download the multiple files as per your given setting, in this file.

wget –i download
