XBMC Media Center (formerly named Xbox Media Center) is a cross-platform free and open source media player and home entertainment system. It was originally created for the first-generation Xbox game console, but is now available for the Linux, Mac OS X (Leopard, Tiger, Apple TV), and Microsoft Windows operating systems. Now they have released their latest version of XBMC namely, XBMC 9.11

Installing XBMC

1. Windows

Installing XBMC on windows is very easy. Just follow instructions of the installation wizard.

2. Linux

If you are using Ubuntu 9.10 or higher, you have the option of a more streamlined install. Load the terminal window and issue the following.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbm

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install xbmc

sudo apt-get update

You do not need to add the XBMC Repo nor the PPA Keys. XBMC is already installed.

Running XBMC

Called Confluence, the new look blends some of the best features of XBMC’s previous default skin (PM3.HD) with several other popular skins for pretty impressive results.
