KDE DesktopUbuntu is normally based on the Gnome desktop environment. Kubuntu is based on the KDE environment. But, that doesn’t mean that we can’t install KDE in Ubuntu! So, do you know how to install KDE on Ubuntu? Its very easy… Lets find out how…

How to install KDE in Ubuntu?

  • Open the Terminal (In the main menu, Applications > Accessories > Terminal) and enter the following command :

sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

  • Next they will ask “Do you want to continue [Y/n]?”. In here type “Y” and press enter.
  • Now, it will take some time to download and install the required packages. When it is done, you’ll see a screen as follows :

  • In here, select “OK” (selected by default) and press enter.
  • In the next screen, you’ll need to select what is the default desktop manager which you want to use. Select “kdm”  (press the tab key to select) and press enter.

  • Almost finished, now you need to re-start your system!

After the re-start, you will be greeted by your new KDE desktop manager! What do you think about KDE? Better than Gnome? or Gnome is the best?
