Can We Boost Our Blogs By Creating Forums?
You like this story?
I have read many posts on the net about boosting your blog by posting on forums that were created by other people. But what if we create our own forum? Can’t we benefit from our own forum? Will it help to boost our blogs? Lets find out…
Actually, this is a small idea which haunted my mind for several months. But dude to less time, I tried to forget about it. Recently, when I think about it again I found out that it might be very useful!
Why will it be useful?
- Links : We can put links in our forum pointing to the blog in order to build back-links
- Traffic : It will help us to bring more traffic to our blogs. For example : When posts in our forum get indexed by the search engines, it will bring more search engine traffic to both our blog and the forum. (to benefit mostly from this, we need to put our forum in the same domain as our blog)
- More Post Ideas : Think about it this way. In forums, people ask questions. So, we can convert those questions into posts right? (We can answer some of those questions by writing blog posts)
So, considering the above facts, I started working on a new forum. Actually, its not that hard to build a forum. Like we use WordPress for blogs, we can use PHPBB or BBPress to create forums. BBPress is based on WordPress, but it seems to be a bit immature, so I went for PHPBB which is one of the famous forum systems.
In about 4 days, I was able to finish setting up the Tech Hamlet Forum! Now, its time to test whether my 3 theories will work or not.
What do you think? Will it work?
Now, I need your help to make this forum a success! Try to get the maximum use of it. Resolve your problems, discuss about new inventive ideas and also try to help others by resolving their problems! So, will you help us? If so, go to our forum : http://forums.techhamlet.com/and register today! :D

I have thought about this before also, but unless you have a really solid community and quite a large amount of subscribers, it is going to take a lot of effort to get a forum off the ground.

That’s surely a good idea mate, but for success you have to be very active in forum. And I am agreed with Tom too, community has to be very strong for forums.
Best luck for the future dude, I am sure you can make it a successful story too :)

Dear Pubudu,
I agree with you when you say forums helps to promote a blog and the link backs from there are pretty useful. But I am afraid, it would take much more effort to promote and make a forum usable. Its rather easier to find readers to your blog and would be fruitful but finding members for forum (for new and unestablished forums) is very hard and time consuming. I suppose it requires at least 3 to 7 people to manage and promote a forum when only one person is great for a blog.
Anyway, if forum became popular and people start using it genuinely it is more profitable than blog. For a blog you need to be equally active all the time but for a forum members will contribute to the greatest level leaving you the job of just moderating.
Think it again, would you spend your lot of time to establish a forum or keep growing your already great blog. I doubt you will continue your forum. A forum to help blog is rather opposite thought. Better A blog to promote forum would be advisable.
I respect if you disagree to my thoughts.
Thanks for your valuable advice bro! Your right, it will be harder to promote the forum. But my plan is that, at the initial stage, i won’t do much to promote it. In all my posts, i will put a link for users to answer any questions through the forum, so when they post, i’ll answer! like that i’ll leave the forum to develop by itself in the background! After several months, im expecting some members to join my team… after that i’ll concentrate more on the forum! :D

Forums are great to build a community and drive more traffic. But the only thing that has prevented me from creating a forum is time. Forums does require time and effort to maintain.

If you have a large number of readers in your blog, then you will surely get good number of members in your forums. I too started forums in my site 2-3 months back. Still I have only 20 members. If you can, please join my forums…

I didn’t do anything, maybe my host did. Can you please explain me what the problem is? I’ll try sorting it out with my host.
Bro, the problem is, when i go to your site, my browser says, connecting and nothing happens!
When i ping to your site, it says, request timed out!
When i go through the proxy, (pagewash.com) it loads perfectly!
Normally, this happens when your dns settings have been changed or reset by your host! so it will take some time for the DNS to be propagated! got it? the best way is to ask your host! :D
