I have told this before and im telling it again… Internet is getting more dangerous everyday! Almost everyone knows that the Internet is full of Viruses. But are they alone? Isn’t there anything else which can harm us on the net? Why not? Fish have Fishers and Humans have Phishers! Haven’t you ever heard of Phishing attacks? If not, you better learn it fast, because it can bring you a lot of trouble!

On the Internet, you visit websites. You just type www. something on the address bar or search from a search engine for the address. But how can you say that you visited the genuine, original site that you wanted to visit? This is where Phishing comes.

If a person tries to fool you by creating a copy of the original site, that’s Phishing. These false sites are used widely to grab your personal information like E-mails, Passwords, and also credit card numbers!!!

Phishing is the criminally fraudulent process of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication.

Even world’s biggest sites like Twitter was attacked using phishing scams. Recently, the attackers used a false Twitter login page to grab the user names and passwords of many Twitter users and then used them to send spam! Not only that, most of the time these kinds of attacks targets online banking systems. If some one can grab the credit card details of a rich person using a phishing site… he can retire early! Today I found a small Info Graphic which have shown several important facts about Phishing. Read it and see how dangerous it is!

45% of bank customers loosing millions of money means a huge amount. As I said earlier, Phishing attacks not only target banks, it also targets many other web sites. So, be careful!

  • Always watch the address bar to make sure your under the right URL
  • Always check whether the lock sign is there at the bottom of the browser before you enter your sensitive information.
